GUM

GUM is a free app for the phone that allows users to scan barcodes and use that to create a board similar to one found on pinterest made up of comments and discussions.

This app would be fun to use in the creation of a treasure hunt of sorts for students. They would be given a time window where they were allowed to use their phones to find things with barcodes in the school to scan. If it was part of the project, they would be able to leave a comment for others to see and respond too. It would also be a good way to get student input on collection materials or encourage students to check out an item with low circulation.

WorldBook: This Day in History

This app is a fun program that provides information on interesting things that have happened on a particular day throughout history. It would be a fun activity to do with students and have a student read the fact of the day or to have them research something mentioned in one of these facts and then create poster on it to display in the library.
